Here we go....

Well, here we are - my first post from my newly refurbished page. Be sure to take a peek outside of your google reader. I decided to go with a more minimalistic approach to the blog style, let the subject matter speak for itself and bring the color/fun! Click on each of the categories/links on the side, too!

I was wondering what I could write about for this first post to really ring in the new year, and after some thinking I decided to go partially with something you may have seen me post recently over at Heather's - my newly purchased carry-on luggage! See, I'm taking my first vacation in years, this coming March. Lets be honest, the countdown is 7 weeks, and I've been counting down for two months already. ;) I'm going to be flying to Arizona to visit some friends for a little less than a week, and I am beyond excited. This will be the furthest west I have traveled, let alone by myself! Its going to be quite different than Maine, and I cannot wait to see the Grand Canyon, as well as my friends' new house. But, I'm also kind of excited about the actual traveling itself - planes, airports, packing. I'm strange that way, but its all part of the experience. After Christmas I treated myself to two carry-on's, so that I can travel without checking a suitcase. The black oversized tote is by Nine West, and how could I pass up a faux snakeskin bag - a pink one at that! Ack!

So fun, right? The vacation will be much needed by the time it gets here, because its been needed for about a year now. Especially now that we're heading through the winter months here, I'll be ready for some sunshine and warmer weather. Not having to wear a heavy winter jacket in March? Priceless.

Speaking of things pink: my hair. And my nailpolish. No matter how hard I try, I can't help but be girly.

Thankyou so much to those of you who left feedback on my previous post! I have recently set some goals for myself now that I've got my blog up and running again. I'd like to post at least twice a week, if not more. I need to use my Canon more and my I-phone camera less. One of these weekends (if I'm ever home) I'd like to get out and walk around the city with the Canon and share that with you. I need to keep up on my paper journal writing, which I've slacked on over the past couple of weeks. I hope to do some fun inspiration posts like I used to, too, of decor and sewing and fun things that I'm into that aren't mine. Unfortunately since I have been house sitting away from home for a week and am not done until this coming weekend, I have not got a single stitch of sewing done, but I have a stack of projects to finish by February/March when I get home.

Taking some time for myself over the past year was really important, even if it took me away from the things I love - sewing and blogging definitely fell into that category - but you've gotta do what you've gotta do. I definitely missed the blogging community and interacting with you all who read! So, its nice to be back

And for those of you who have been asking about the kitties - they're doing okay - Honey has been having some of her medical issues again lately so she'll be traveling with me to the vet this coming weekend. Nothing we haven't dealt with before but its still frustrating and very trying having a sick pet, especially when I'm not home full time right now! Rockie is still her crazy self, I never have to worry about her. But thankyou to those of you who asked! I'll have some photos of them soon enough. ♥

  1. Welcome back! I love your hair (and makeup, and nails, and new bags). Maybe if you ever get further west you'd show me how I can girly-up!

  2. :) It's good to see you back! Your new layout looks great. I do have a question though, how hard is it to create new buttons like that on the sidebar? My blog is getting a bit cluttered and I need to slim it down some without losing my content. :) See, one day back and you're inspiring me to give my blog an update!

  3. Thanks! It's fairly simple, I created them in Paint and then hosted them on Flickr. If you know reasonably basic HTML it's pretty straightforward but if not just google search it, there are some great tuts! I just created labels or pages in blogger and linked to those, or linked to my outside sites. Email me if you have questions, I can try to help! apriltwoeighty @ yahoo.com :)

  4. Brooke, it's great you are getting a vacation. I've been reading you for awhile and can relate to a lot of things you are going through. I had been in a 3 year relationship and never did anything on my own. Back in July, I made my first solo trip to New York (was also my first time being that far East). First time experiences are the best. Write. Take loads of pictures. Enjoy yourself!
