my mom and i made the hour-&-a-half trek up to alewives today...
the class i'd been preparing for for a month was finally here!
some adorable silly geese greeted us...

i kind of wanted to bring a couple home.
i don't think the cats would have liked that much,
but the boyfriend would have! ;)
and we stopped at the fish ladder to check on the alewives (fish)...
you can read about the alewives and fish ladder a bit, here.

& walked around the neighborhood a bit to kill a few extra minutes.
(i'll be honest, i drove a bit fast and we got there a little early.)

so, it was on to the shop for my class!....

alewives has a nice big room where they often host classes.
i set up with some hexie examples and instruction pamphlets for everyone.

we even brought along the vintage quilt top from the 30's,
courtesy of an old-timey family member of my mom's...

it was all hand sewn using newspaper for templates!

i also brought along my bee blocks as examples! (everyone LOVED them.)

i brought my AMH hexie project with me and even had time to make a few flowers...

we had about a dozen people for the class, and i have to say -
for having never taught before, i enjoyed it very much!
everyone was so nice and so interested in making the hexies,
and everyone did a really great job and caught on quickly!
it was very refreshing! ♥

rhea, the store manager, is so effing adorable, right?!?-

she came armed with a huge stack of awesome fabrics "for variety". ;)
all in all, i think it went really well and i had a great time -
i hope all of the students did, too!
(if any of you are reading this, feel free to pipe in!)
SIGH.
alewives is my most favorite place on earth,
a) to take pictures
and b) to buy fabric.
i just want to curl up in there and eat drink & sleep the fabrics...
to make it even better, they are hosting an amy butler trunk show!
so many gorgeous bags!!!

no kidding, right?!
so, i got to dress up a bit in a new hand-me-down dress
(which i acquired still with tags on it!)...
& after all of the excitement of the day,
i was content to come home and hang out with these goofballs:

the day started out with two in cones, but in the end just one.
(poor wookiee isn't healing great, so he's got another week of shame.)
i've got to be honest with you-
the idea of going back to work tomorrow is... UGHHH. ugh.
monday.
ugh.
so, i'm going to eat ice cream for dinner and call it a night! ;)
♥
i hope everyone has a great week if i don't see you -
be in touch! XO

I visited Alewives for the first time about a month ago and was just intoxicated by the place. I've never loved a store that much.... and I don't even sew.... yet! I'd love to take your class in the fall. I'll keep an eye out for details. Thanks for sharing this post and your photos.
