value.

i worked a bit on my Fassett value quilt this morning..

i've said it before, but i'll say it again... i wasn't always a fan of Kaffe Fassett's fabrics - i love the colors but sometimes the big flowery things allude me. my mother, however, is the biggest fassett fan out there, i'm sure of it. she has nearly every fabric he's ever designed, in large quantities ;) so, i figured i should have a go at it. i'm glad i'm using these in a value quilt, because i'm not sure i ever would have used them all seperately. they just work so well together!

i sewed up a handful of the pastel/light blocks:

i have wayyyy more dark blocks done already!:

i can't get enough of those colors ♥

and i also played around with the whole slicing two blocks of opposite values in half and sewing them together - i had seen a quilt done like this at a quilt shop and figured i'd have a go at making the pattern myself. well, they definitely did it differently than i did - because my corners are all cut off! yipes!! i've decided it really doesn't matter, though, especially this far in to making blocks. the defined line between light & dark is still there, so thats all i care about really. and i have the feeling once its quilted you won't really be able to tell from afar anyway.

i haven't yet decided what sort of layout i'll be doing for this quilt, but i'm leaning away from the smaller closed in blocks like above, and more towards a larger design like this. (i won't be doing a zig zag design, because i already have one thats been the works forever.)

like i've said before, nothing i make is perfect. its rare that something turns out exactly the way i wanted it to, especially when i'm just eyeballing it... but thats part of the fun of creating for me. figuring out where i've gone wrong for next time ;)

this morning my area looked a bit like this:
happy sunday!
