so i have to write about this new (yes, another! ;)) project i started today... i was inspired at a local quilt shop yesterday - don't worry, all i bought was two small pieces of fabric to use in my Spicing Up The Kitchen swap -- they had a quilt hanging on the wall made from 9-patch blocks. a value quilt of sorts.
you make your 9-patches, some from light fabrics and some from dark, then cut the m in half diagonally, and re-sew them so that the blocks are half dark & half light. this is made somewhat similarly..
i've been dying to use my kaffe fassett stash, and had originally planned on making a pastel quilt from the fabrics i have, but have decided a pastel quilt really isn't my thing. so! i'll be doing a value quilt (diamond pattern) with these modified 9-patches. i'm hoping i'll have enough dark fabrics... i still need to finish the zigzag quilt i started two years ago!, which took up a bunch of my darker ones!
anyway.

a little progress...
& my helper. she's soooo helpful. ;)
i've also been plugging along at my AMH hexies! i'm not even thinking about how many more i'll have to make to do a quilt top ;)...
By the end of this year you will have so many beautiful quilts finished and a bigger budget for next year to stock up on more fabric!!
ReplyDeleteThe kitty is a good UN-helper. :)
What an interesting idea for a values quilt! I can't wait to see how it turns out :)
ReplyDeletei currently have a bunch of value quilt blocks that i started one day on a whim too...someday i'll get back to it!
ReplyDeletelooove your hexie progress. :) so pretty!!!
i'm sooo jealous of all the gorgeous sunlight in your sewing room. our apartment is sooo dark - i can't wait to move and find one with LOTS of windows. that'll be a requirement...
I just got some Kaffe Fassett this weekend, hopefully I'll get to start working with it tomorrow.. I'm really excited! Excited to see yours too, and you hexies look beautiful. <3
